Non-urgent advice: Extended Access & Out of Hours

Whatever the day or time, if you or someone else experiences severe chest pain, loss of blood or suspected broken bones, go to your nearest accident and Emergency department or call 999. Accident and emergency departments are open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year and can assess serious injuries and provide emergency treatment.  

West Lancashire Health Centre & Skelmersdale Walk-In Centre can be accessed without an appointment and are open 7 days a week. The walk-in centres can treat a range of minor illnesses and injuries. They are staffed by Nurse Practitioners and GP’s. 

Extended Hours Service

West Lancashire now has an extended access service running 7 days a week from 18:30 – 20:00 Monday to Friday, 10:00 – 14:00 on Saturdays and 10:00 – 13:00 on Sundays

 The service runs from various locations on weeknights, and from 3 hubs in West Lancashire on the weekend;

– Burscough Health Centre.

– Ormskirk Medical Practice.

– Sandy Lane Health Centre.

The service offers pre-bookable and same-day primary care appointments with a range of clinicians including GP’s, ANP’s, Practice Nurses, Phlebotomists and Health Care Assistants. Appointments are available to all patients that are registered with a GP Surgery in West Lancashire, and they can be booked by contacting the surgery reception on 01695 317280.

Please be aware that the extended hours service is not a walk-in clinic, you must have an appointment.

Cancellation Appointments

The extended hours service may occasionally have some appointment cancellations over the weekend, if you would like to ring them directly to check whether they have any cancellations available to be booked during the weekend – Please call 01695 736058. (Saturday 10am – 2pm and Sunday 10am – 1pm).

These appointments are NOT urgent on the day appointments similar to what is offered in the surgery, they are simply cancellations that can be used on the day if patients enquire..
